CAPTAIN'S LOG:

[art 1115 blog assignment] Article in question.
I think writing out your goals in some way holds you accountable. If I'm working on a project and push out a road map, problems could arise from not abiding by it. I think the article has something to say for goal making, but it somewhat falls flat for me. Most goal setting advice no matter the topic is very samey, and maybe they worked for the person(s) writing the article, but everyone has unique challenges. I believe for some goals it may take a while to notice, compared to others, this plays into the question of having “concrete” goals in a way. If your goal is to go on a run on friday then you'll know you achieved your goal after your run on friday. If you r goal is something like “become a runner” there's no real threshold to pass, does one run a week make you a runner? Or should you run every day? I think more malleable goals may lead to imposter syndrome in a way. I think for me a plan of action is the road map approach, setting myself certain dates to which i think something should be achieved by, obviously this will not be the case every time, but something simple such as “x should be completed by sometime in october, x date at the latest”. My favorite way of measuring where I am at with my goals and plans is a physical calendar, as crossing off a certain task gives me a sort of fulfillment or satisfaction. The idea of the weekly “business meeting” with myself is not something I see working for myself really, I think a better approach for me is being able to see a physical result infront of me. I think my biggest roadblock at the moment is scheduling my goals around my current life. I have some big personal projects that I'm trying to work on, but sometimes due to coursework there are spans of weeks where i can work on them at all. I think sharing my goals with those close to me would be a good way of garnering support for my goals, as having a friend maybe check in and say “how's the work on x going?” would likely be a major boost to my motivation.
